Thank you to all who participated in the MLK Service Day!

Thank you to those who helped to make the First Annual MLK Service Day such a great success.  We appreciate your financial contributions and donations of kit items and all of the volunteers who worked together to provide survival kits for dozens of homeless individuals in our community.  Here are the highlights:

  • 100 survival kits were made with the drawstring bags and ~ 10-15 more were made with ziplock bags
  • Each survival kit contained the following items:  bottle of water, hat, gloves, socks, hand/toe warmers, lip balm, lotion, toothpaste/toothbrush, soap, shampoo/conditioner, several food/sweet items, blessing bag note
  • Approximately 19 student volunteers (promoted by Student Association and African American Empowerment Club), 4 adults
  • 55 kits were delivered to BEDS in LaGrange
  • 25 will go to PADS
  • 20 will go to local police (Riverside, North Riverside, Brookfield)

And finally, a big shout out to Christine Kawiecki and Michelle Udelson, the brilliant team who created, organized, and executed this event.  If you are interested in being part of the team for next year’s event, please contact Christine at
