RBHS Day of Service

Is your student in need of service hours? The RBHS DAY of SERVICE is the perfect opportunity!  Student sign ups will take place this Monday through Thursday during lunch. There are several projects in each of the surrounding communities. Have your student come up to the sign-up table during their lunch period. The Day of Service is Saturday, April 29th. This is the signature event for our high school and the most publicly visible demonstration of students giving back to the community which supports them.  Hope to see you at the sign up table!

Congrats to Taylor Jurgens, the winner of the t-shirt design contest!  You can read about it at the RBHS Clarion here.

Paul received a candy basket with a $10 gift card. All entrants received a voucher for a free cookie in the cafeteria. Thank you to all who contributed.

The DOS is on Saturday, April 23, 2016. Sign ups will be held sometime in March. Everyone who participates will receive a free t-shirt designed by Paul. BE THERE AND MAKE A SPLASH!

Third Annual RBHS Day of Service a Success

Despite the uncooperative weather, the Riverside-Brookfield High School Day of Service was a great success, with more than 220 student, parent, and staff volunteers cleaning up and beautifying their communities. On April 25th, the high school community participated in twenty-three projects in Brookfield, Broadview, LaGrange Park, North Riverside, and Riverside. Efforts were coordinated through a joint committee spearheaded by the RBHS PTO and the Day of Service (DOS) Student Committee.

The DOS volunteer committee contacted local municipalities and civic organizations including the Brookfield Beautification Commission, the Salt Creek Watershed Network, the Cook County Forest Preserves, and the Frederick Law Olmsted Society of Riverside to execute clean up, restoration and plantings in community parks and public areas.

The DOS committee helped orchestrate the student groups, clubs and teams into work teams. Student volunteers were recruited by the DOS Student Committee. Student artist Remy Doornebos designed the 2015 logo that appeared on the front of the Day of Service shirts, posters and other communication.

Assistant principal John Passarella, whose impending retirement was celebrated at the Day of Service After Party, stated, “RBHS is a warm learning environment because of events like this!

I’m proud to say I’m a BULLDOG!”

Major financial contributions to the Day of Service were made by the RBHS PTO, the Frederick Law Olmsted Society of Riverside, and the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. The After Party celebration was supplied entirely by refreshment and monetary donations from the following community businesses:
